Down the Rabbit Hole!
I began will an initial question which I searched in Google: "How does a genre of music reflect emotion?"
I found an article that explained that the music we choose to listen to can greatly express the how we identify ourselves.
Link can be found here:
This had me seek more about myself. My next search was for a band I listen to quite a bit: "Our Last Night band genre."
Google came up with the band's genre(s) being Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, and Alternative Metal. This had me wanting to search for the genre of another band I listen to a lot to see how their styles of music compared.
My search was: "Chunk No Captain Chunk genre."
The results were similar being Post-Hardocore, Easycore, and Melodic Hardcore. Since both bands had on genre in common(Post-Hardcore), I searched the following: "Post-Hardcore."
I found a Wikipedia article for Post-Hardcore from the search:
The article explained the definition of the genre as a focus on expression through the band's unique sound and style. It mainly originates from Punk Rock. This had me search for the definition of Punk Rock. The explanation of the genre is the raw/blunt expression of one's views of society and/or personal experiences and emotions.
The link I found for the definition of Punk Rock:
In summary, I found that the genre of music is the culmination of personal experiences and emotions as well as how one identifies himself. People can learn the way one thinks and feels based on the genre and styles of music one chooses to listen to. This can change moment to moment so the way one expresses his thoughts and emotions can be spread across a wide variety of musical genres.
